Earn more for your English
Families traveling in Japan look for a nanny they can talk to. That's worth more than a regular babysitting job.
You choose your own rate between ¥2,500 and ¥10,000. Local rates are a rough guide and vary by agency.
What could you earn?
- Founding period (first 2 months)
- ≈ ¥130,000 / month
- After that (15% commission)
- ≈ ¥110,500 / month
An estimate before tax. Travel fees, extra-child and late-night fees are on top. Families pay a separate service fee; it never comes out of your earnings.

Questions from nannies
What does the work involve?
Mostly looking after the children of families visiting Japan, at their hotel, Airbnb or wherever they're staying. Think play in English, helping with meals, bath and bedtime, and nearby outings like a park, always agreed with the parents in the chat first. Kids range from babies to primary school age, and you choose which ages you look after and how many children at once (up to 6).
How far ahead do bookings come in? Do I have to accept them?
Anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks ahead. You set your weekly hours, how much notice you need and how far ahead families can book, and you can block days off. Every request is your choice: accept or decline within 24 hours. Bookings are at least 3 hours.
How much do I take home, and when do I get paid?
You set your hourly rate (¥2,500–¥10,000). TabiCare keeps 15% of the childcare fee; your travel fee (up to ¥3,000 per booking) is all yours. For example, ¥3,000/hour for 3 hours is ¥9,000, minus ¥1,350, so you take home ¥7,650 plus travel. Families pay when the booking is confirmed, and 24 hours after it ends we send your pay through Stripe to your Japanese bank account. The arrival date depends on Stripe's payout schedule, which you can see in your Stripe dashboard.
Do I earn more for extra kids, late nights or overtime?
Yes, and it goes to you (the 15% fee applies). Each extra child adds ¥500/hour, and 22:00–06:00 adds ¥1,000/hour. If parents ask to extend, the extra time is at your normal rate. If they come back late without asking, after a 15-minute grace period it's billed in 30-minute blocks at 1.5× your rate.
What if a family cancels at the last minute?
If they cancel 48 hours or more before the start, there's no pay. Between 24 and 48 hours before, you get 50% of your pay. Less than 24 hours before, you get your full pay.
Does my English need to be perfect?
No. You don't need to be fluent or sound like a native speaker. What matters is everyday English: understanding what parents ask, keeping the kids safe and happy, and sending simple updates in the chat. If you can do that, we'd love to hear from you. Other languages are a big bonus too.
What if I need to cancel a booking?
Life happens, and cancelling with 48 hours’ notice or more doesn’t count against you. Cancelling later than that leaves a traveling family stuck, so we record it: 2 late cancellations in 90 days hide your profile from search for 30 days, and not turning up at all pauses your profile until we’ve talked. Genuine emergencies are excused, so just tell us.
Am I an employee? What about tax?
No. You work as an independent contractor (業務委託), so you decide when and how much to work. TabiCare doesn't withhold tax, so you declare your earnings yourself in your annual tax return (確定申告). If you have another job, earnings above ¥200,000 a year from side work usually need to be declared.
Which visas can work with TabiCare?
Japanese nationals, permanent residents, spouses of Japanese nationals and long-term residents can work freely. If you're on a work visa such as Instructor or Engineer/Specialist in Humanities, you usually need permission for activities outside your status (資格外活動許可) first. Students need that permission too and are limited to 28 hours a week. Not sure? Apply anyway and we'll check with you.
Is there insurance if a child gets hurt or something is damaged?
Not at the moment. TabiCare doesn't currently carry insurance for nannies' work, and you don't need your own to join (some nannies have personal liability insurance). We're looking into options and will tell every nanny as soon as we have one. If anything happens during a booking, call 119 (ambulance) or 110 (police) first if needed, then tell us right away at hello@tabicare.com and we'll help with the family.
Is there an interview? What support do I get?
After you apply, we have a short video interview, check your ID, right to work and references, and walk you through how bookings work and our safety tips. During bookings, all messages stay in the in-app chat (contact details stay hidden until a booking is confirmed) and our team can join the chat if needed. If parents are an hour late and can't be reached, we contact them, their hotel and their emergency contact.
Can I get bookings where I live yet?
Bookings are open in Fukuoka City and Kitakyushu. In Osaka & Kyoto and Greater Tokyo we're recruiting nannies first, and families can book there once we launch. Apply now and we'll email you when bookings open in your area. Founding Caregiver perks in those areas start from launch day.
Anywhere in Japan is welcome. Bookings are open in Fukuoka City and Kitakyushu, and Osaka, Kyoto and Greater Tokyo open next. If you live elsewhere, apply now and you'll go live as soon as TabiCare opens near you.
